The mountain that Holds the Royal Umbilical Cords
Mt. Taebong (umbilical cord hill) was given its name because, in the
Goryeo Dynasty, the ashes of the umbilical cords of royalty were buried
there. The stone embankment (umbilical cord room) on the top was
restored by the Soheul-myeon local government in 1993. Pots of umbilical
cord ash have since been stolen, and only the stone holder remains. The
owner of the umbilical cord room was assumed to be a daughter of King
Wanggeon, the founder of the Goryeo Dynasty, or an unnamed prince.
