Abstract
A Study on the Activation Plan of Parental Education Programs
for Parents with Infants/Young Children in Gyeonggi Province

This study aimstoexamine theactual condition of current parental education programs
for parents with infants/young children at childcare support centers, located in Gyeonggi
Province, to thoroughly analyze participants¡¯ expectation of, satisfaction with, and
requests for improvement of current childcare support center parental education
programs, and to present plans to facilitate childcare support center parental education
programs accordingly.
To this end, this study includes the analysis and observation of childcare support
center parental education programs, surveys and in-depth interviews with parents
participating in parental education programs, and meetings with childcare support center
heads and experts for consultation. The major findings are as follows:
First, 139 major parental education programs conducted at childcare support centers
located in Gyeonggi Province from 2013 to 2014 were analyzed. It turned out that
various themes were covered in such programs presented in different times during the
day and throughout the week such as weekday, weekend, morning, and afternoon. The
programs were conducted in such forms as lecture, parent-child activity, workshop, etc.
The groups sized between 11 and 30 individuals were frequent. As for educational
facilities, I-Love-Mom Cafes and educational rooms at childcare support centers were
often utilized. The level of satisfaction among participants was as high as 4.6 points on
average. As a result of the researcher¡¯s observations, it turned out that participants
related positive evaluations on the programs in general.
